Ximian Evolution e-mail client help

I am trying to set up this e-mail client. I can receive mail fine but there is a problem when sending mail.

The error is "Error while performing operation:
DATA response error: User not local; please try <forward-path>"

What does it mean by please try forward-path?

probably a configuration problem

check your outgoing (SMTP) server configuration

does the server allow you to relay ?
do you have to authenticate ? ("server requires authentication")

I still cant get it working.

It connects to the host fine.
I have clicked "Host Requires Authenticaion" and entered my username, and thats fine. Then when checking the mail i enter my password and that is fine. And just as its going to the final steps of sending my mail it says "DATA response error: User not local; please try <forward-path>". Id just like to know what that error means.
