XFS + Raid and how to test SATA disks
How is the support for a XFS + RAID + amd64 in linux these days?
I have some dual-opterons and a bit of storage space. So am am trying to set it up. But as soon as I try to run something as soft as a make -j6 of the kernel on top of the file system it imediatly pulls a xfs_shutdown on md0 due to memory corruption on me and I have to reboot as md0 holds the system in RAID 1.
I also put RAID 5 for the big disks so I have a big home. Is it possible to have hardware raid and software raid at the same time? As im RAID 5 + 0 each done by a diferant part? I would guess not as both would use the begining of the disk and destroy each others efforts. Guess it is LVM then.
Memory is all ECC and passed memtest. Disk testing is on the todo list, if anyone can provide a link to some software that works like smartmontools for SATA2 it would be nice. All I got is a image from hitachi for checking disks, unfortunatly it doesn't get disks that are on the MegaRaid card. So I would have to rewire the disks to the motherboard to be able to test them.
