I had problems with my mouse. I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.7 and no problems. I also discovered that I had SMP enabled in my kernel which caused some weird problems with networking. In the process of all that, I found out that passing a parameter at boot supposedly fixed the problem ( i8042.nomux ) with the mouse. I'm using xorg for my config and the choice parts are:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "SendCoreEvents"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

Section "Module"
Load "extmod"
Load "dri"
Load "dbe"
Load "record"
Load "xtrap"
Load "glx"
Load "speedo"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Monitor Model"
HorizSync 28.0 - 96.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 76.0
Modeline "1280x800" 101.92 1280 1312 1696 1728 800 816 825 841
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go 32M]"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x800" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
"640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

If you're running a 64 bit kernel with your amd64 you are out of luck with the wireless NIC for now. If you're running a 32 bit kernel you can try ndiswrapper around the windows driver for the broadcom wireless NIC. If you really ned wireless, get a supported PCI card wireless NIC.

tea_joe,
With gentoo, i fixed the monitor problem by turning frame buffering off. With your mouse theres a guide on this site for slackware which should help you make the alps pad to work http://www1.uop.edu/~khughes/presario-r3120us/ . Also for the broadcom adapter, its a bit of a pain because there are no native linux drivers, but you might want to try ndiswrapper or linuxant (http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader...c35a1198427856 )

I haven't tried either yet, so I'm not sure how they work. Anyway, let me know how you get on with it .

Ping: mrGenixus -- did it work on r3120us??

mrGenixus

Did your solutions work on the r3120us??

I want to buy the nx9105, which is rumoured to have the much the same internals as the r3120us -- both 32-bit crippled XP-M 3000+ and apparently the same motherboard (so it has been claimed).

I REALLY want to know with certainty that this will run Debian/Knoppix successfully and have been posting in different forums and googling hard to find out. Seems to run just about everything else SuSe9.1, slackware etc.

Thx

I have the key

/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia*

add the following line:
options nvidia NVreg_Mobile=0

this will probably fix most problems, you souldn't even need special modeline, I don't think I'm using one.
