Angry XFree86 -autoconfig -> "libglide2x.so" missing

First of all, I am pretty new to Linux. I'm using Slackware 10.2 with 2.4.31 kernel. I've been trying to install XFree86 4.5.0 by using their Xinstall.sh script. I downloaded all of the required packages (that they list) and the istallation went fine. After the installation

Problem 1: Running XFree86 -autoconfig ->I get some sort of an X screen with the mouse pointer moving but it's just a grey screen divided in 3 not even fitting on the screen.

Problem 2: Running XFree86 -configure -> I get an error saying Could not load the shared library file for Glide: "libglide2x.so", and then telling me to make a softlink, but I can't find the libglide2x.so anywhere (Yeah... I checked the /usr/lib also). I thought Glide was installed with the packages that they give. Even when I downloaded Glide2 and Glide3 and installed it, I can't find the "libglide2x.so"

Q1: Any suggestions?
Q2: Isn't Glide needed only for the 3dfx cards?

My video card is Ati 3d Rage Pro AGP 2X,8MB

Thank you!

well first of all, why do this the hard way??
find a slackware mirror and download the Xfree86 4.4 tarballs provided by Pat V. and install that way!! you can find v4.4 in the unsupported files on most slackware mirrors.........there is really no difference between v4.4 and 4.5........
