Question Xfree86 and Cpu Time

Im running Mepis 2003.10 on the 2.6.7 kernel installed on the hard drive. When I start up in Kde, Xfree86 runs at about 5% user cpu time but for some reason after a couple hours Xfree86 starts to use about 85% user cpu time. Xfree86 is version 4.3.0-0pre1v4. I am running the computer via realVNC. Any ideas as to how to remedy this?

Computer Stats
Intel PIII 700Mhz
384MB Sdram
Sony MB (not sure of the model)
Maxtor 60GB HD
Radeon 7200 32MB Vid Card

Thanks
