xfree86 4.2.0 (src) on Debian

Im running Potato with kernal 2.2.19

i wanted to install x 4 but cant find a binary for it.

Xinstall.sh -check says to get
Linux-ix86-glibc21

first i checked debians site, all they had was 3.3 or something like that.
same thing happened with dselect.

i went to xfree86.org, and they didn't have any binarys for my system either.
the closest was Linux-ix86-glibc22

i ended up downloading the source code, but the documentation was so crappy i got no clue what to do..

the documentation said to 'go download the binarys' then install them.. ... that didn't help to much.

is there some script i was supposed to get to automatically compile that endless amount of .c files?
is there a binary out that that I don't know about?

would it be much easier to change from libc 6.1.3 to 6.2 and then get the x binary or should i not mess around with that?

somebody please, throw me a bone.

If you want X 4.x on Debian you should be using Woody, however there are unofficial debs available.

To quote the #debian IRC bot:

Quote:

<apt> rumour has it, xf4 is XFree86 version 4.x (http://www.xfree86.org/), or packaged by Branden 'Overfiend' Robinson (http://people.debian.org/~branden). For XF4 for potato goto (http://people.debian.org/~cpbotha/), or note that xf4 on potato is *not* considered stable
