XFce4 configuration
i got hooked on XFce4 during my brief trial of slackware. But since switching back to SuSE 9.0, i haven't had much luck. SuSE only offers XFce 3.x, not the latest 4.x version, which seems to be much better.
i've tried installing from source ( and redoubled and installed w/ rpms when i had trouble ). FYI, I use kdm as my login manager. when using the supplied ~/.xfce4/xinitrc script, i am able to get into XFce, but only the panel works. the taskbar, and settings manager do not work. i simplified the ~/.xfce4/xinitrc script to read only: Code:
xfce-mcs-manager lastly, i edited ~/.xinitrc to read as above (no luck) and the one liner: startxfce4 (no luck) i can't figure out why the task panel and such aren't starting. as far as i can tell, they were installed properly (no errors during install). anyone have ideas? |
update:
well i had a sneaking suspicion that i had WAY too many remnants of configuration files in my home directory (too many distro's- too short a time) and i think that was the crux of the problem. i had to re-install SuSE 9.0 since configuiring my printer fubared something. i could only get into init level 1  after the format, XFce4 configured beautifully. it's all good now and i love XFce! |
