Xfce graphics not working on new Arch install

Hello,

I installed Arch Linux (64-bit) on my Sony Vaio and am now having problems getting Xfce's graphics to work. I can run 'startx' fine and see xclock, so I don't think it's a problem with my graphics drivers (xf86-video-intel). However, if I run 'startxfce4', a background image with "XFCE" on it briefly flickers before the screen goes to black and shows a small segment of a window or a toolbar. I can move my mouse around, but nothing else happens. I can return to text-only Arch if I kill X with "CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE".

I installed Arch according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide , and installed Xfce according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xfce .

I'd appreciate any help getting Xfce working. Thanks.

Do you get any error-messages on the commandline you started XFCE from?

Hi TobiSGD, here's what is printed to the console after running 'startxfce4':

The "Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0" part doesn't sound good. Here's the rather long info of /var/log/Xorg.0.log corresponding to a single attempt at running 'startxfce' starting from a blank log file:

Something of interest: I tried running 'startx', and then, in one of the X consoles that popped up, running 'startxfce4' - this brought up what I assume is the xfce desktop inside its own window. I couldn't interact with the contents of the desktop; I could only move the window containing it around the screen and resize it. Weird.
