Xev "dissapeared"

Hello,
I'm not one of those people who mess around and then something just stops working... In my case - it just stopped working
Anyway, I wanted to make the extra buttons on my keayboard to work (and this question isn't about it - I've got lots of it answered on internet) and in the instructions it says that I should use xev to see the keycodes which the extra buttons are producing. I KNOW that xev worked, but I didn't use it more than 2 times - I taught that shokeys is all I needed, but later I saw I was wrong. Anyway, now I need xev to make things work - but now it won't start!! It just says command not found...
I tried whereis xev, nothing comes up...
I tried to find it and download it - but I can't find it (when I search for it, only pages about configuring keyboard are found), rpmfind doesn't find it either...
So, do you know any xev like program or where can I find xev or how to fix xev?
(showkeys won't work since I need keycodes not scancodes, if I get the instructions right....)

Thanks
