XDMCP connection failure

Hi all,

I'm having this XDMCP connection error.
Two linux servers: Fedora Core 6 Zod (x86-64), CentOS 5 (x86)
One Windows XP client with NetSarang's XManager Enterprise v2.0 (build 0501).

The servers have static IP addresses (i.e. 10.32.192.10, 10.32.192.11).
When the client is given a static IP address (i.e. 10.32.192.190) it can
connect to both servers.
When given a dynamic IP address (DHCP leases 10.32.192.121) the client
connects only to Fedora server.

Using WireShark on client side I can track a successfull XDMCP connection:
...
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Query
10.32.192.11 -->10.32.192.121 XDMCP Willing
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Request
10.32.192.11 -->10.32.192.121 XDMCP Accept
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Manage
10.32.192.11 -->10.32.192.121 TCP 41178 > X11 SYN
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 TCP X11 > 41178 SYN, ACK
10.32.192.11 -->10.32.192.121 TCP 41178 > X11 ACK
10.32.192.11 -->10.32.192.121 X11 initial connection request
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.121 X11 initial connection reply
...

... and an unsuccessfull XDMCP connection:
...
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Query
10.32.192.11 -->10.32.192.121 XDMCP Willing
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Request
10.32.192.11 -->10.32.192.121 XDMCP Accept
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Manage
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Manage
10.32.192.121-->10.32.192.11 XDMCP Manage
...

Note here that DHCP is configured with option 46 (NetBIOS Node Type)
and the linux servers are using different primary DNS servers.
Note also that XDMCP connection to Fedora server is OK indifferent of
the nature of the IP address (static or dynamic) of the client !?!

I'm assuming that the failure lies on invalid magic cookie (MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1), due to incorrect use of DHCP and/or DNS settings on the
client side.

How can I nail this down ?

Thanks in advance,

Nikos

Have try adding your PC IP address to /etc/hosts?

This problem is most likely the DNS configuration issue. Check the forward and reverse lookup table.
