Xconfigurator problems with All-In-Wonder Rage 128 Pro

I have a Red Hat 7.1 installation which appears to have installed fine except for the video card - an All-In-Wonder Rage 128 Pro. Almost any configuration during the installation procedure failed to display properly (on a Bilinea 22" monitor), and now Xconfigurator complains and refuses to play ball. It's a drag having forked out for the nice card & monitor when I can only use it for 40x80 text!!

The specific cards available during installation do not explicitly include this card ... however, I have read that this card has been used successfully by others, so what might be up?

I also have a Win98SE installation on the same machine, and it occurred to me that my use of the card in TV mode from Win98SE might have left the card in a state unfamiliar/incompatible with Xconfigurator ... might this me the case?

Alas, much to my irritation, I can't get to this machine more than a couple of times a week, so I'd like to be able to suss this out in as few hits as I can.

Cheers,
Rik.

I bought a ATI Xpert 2000 a month ago, which is a rage 128 card. And i found that linux does not support it in any shape or form, due to it's closed chipset. Maybe you're in the same boat

Worked for me

I installed Redhat 7.1 on an Athon systems with the ATI AllinWonder AGP video card and the Xconfiguration worked well.

I have been fighting the Via chipset issues for the Video4Linux driver though.

Is your card AGP or PCI?

masq57:

It's an AGP card. I'll try rebooting under Win98SE once more and fiddle with the mode tomorrow, when I next get a chance to get to the machine ... and I'll make a few more accurate notes of the problem.

Cheers,
Rik.
