Xbuntu 10.4
 

Hi All,

I know this site has a LOT of linux distributions of various Linix O/S's. I see a lot of Ubuntu, but no Xbuntu that I can copy to my thumb drive. This is so confusing to a 65 year old with brain trouble.

Can someone point me to a site where I can order the CD's?

Well, I don't know if Ubuntu still ships cd/dvd at home.
PC linux magazine typically brings new installation every month.
Download shall be the fastest: http://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/

resolv is right, downlaoding the xubuntu CD would eb the fastest way of getting xubuntu. Here is the download page for xubuntu-

If you want xubuntu 10.04 (there is no 10.4) make sure you downlaod it from under the 'Latest release with Long Term Support: 10.04, Lucid Lynx' heading.

If for some reason you feel that downaloding and burning a copy of the xubuntu 10.04 .iso is impossible, you can order the discs from various sites. Here is just one-

BTW, the end of support date for xubuntu 10.04 and 11.10 are the same (April 2013) so you could get 11.10 instead of 10.04 if you want.

Sort of, but its complicated. For most people, the easy answer is 'not anymore'.

is what is going on:

I'm a long-time Ham (Morse Code) Operator. I want to try and use
Xbubtu 10.04 as the simple jumping-off point in having it control my transceiver, log contacts, and allow me to use the digital modes available.

Now, I am running a Dell 2400 with 256k of PC-2700 Ram, with XP HOME and Excel spreadsheets (Skywarn Project). I would like to be able to dual-boot to either XP or Xbuntu, eventually phasing out WIN XP HOME and run just probably Debian, when I've learned how Xbuntu works.

I'm hesitant about installing Xbuntu after XP Home, because this computer was given to me and the nephew didn't have the "Recovery Disc" or the OEM of XP HOME. I don't want to mess up my Excel spreadsheets as a lot of work (and still some to go)

I have been contacted by a fellow ham and IT specialist who lives near me, but in Texas, so I can call him for "help". :D
He's half my age, so he would be more like a "son" teaching his Father "new tricks", LOL!

I'm going to call 'Robert' tomorrow and see what he says. I'll tell him of Y' all's "options" and try them if nothing else works. I think I can get the Excel Spreadsheets on a thumb drive.

Well, it's getting on to Lunch time and I have a lot of inputting to do on the spreadsheet. IF there is a spreadsheet
or easy database, I'll hopefully have the ability to change them
over to Linux stuff, then drop XP HOME altogether.

Just do the backup of all your important data from win xp, copy on some usb stick, burn on cd/dvd, copy on another pc, whatever.
Anyhow, after making dual boot, recovery disk even if exists shall be made again after completing the job.
