xawtv problem: x not synchronizing?
 

Hi,

I've found another who can explain my problem better in his words, but I'm afraid he hasn't got an answer for the problem yet, so I'm hoping one of you does have an answer for me:

"In the meantime, I'm enclosing some screen dumps relating to the TV card
which might help someone suggest what further steps I can take. The
screen dumps include 2 snippets from dmesg and 1 each from my attepts to
run the two main TV apps for Linux (kwintv and xawtv).

I've a strong feeling that the TV problem is related to the size,
addressing, or operation of my video frame buffer, i.e. the TV apps are
not synch'ing properly with X.

My reasons for guessing this are as follows:

1. Before I recently upgraded my distro (to SuSE 7.0) and, hence, X
server to XFree86 v4, I had perfect pictures, but no sound or radio.

2. Now I have sound and radio, but can only get a picture via a single
frame grab.

3. The tuner is perfectly capable of locating TV stations (that's how I
know the sound is OK).

In other words, all TV and Radio functions have worked at some time, but
not simultaneously."

My tv-card is the pinnacle pctv (or miro), and I have redhat 7.2 installed. Several people checked out my modules.conf and haven't been able to pick out an error there.
For those interested in the performance of my videocard; my nvidia geforce 2 mx works perfectly playing my dvd in mplayer.
