Xawtv problem

I've installed my WinTV card, the bttv, v4l, videodev + i2c
modules are all loaded. I've set up my .xawtv, all the channels
are working. Everything's working.

Except I can't see the picture in xawtv unless there's something
covering part of the xawtv window.

I've tried using mplayer, but i get no video output.

Anyone got any ideas?

are you using grabdisplay or overlay

chanza 12-30-2002 12:03 AM

Overlay. Switchin gto grabdisplay leaves me with either no video, or occasionally (*very* occasionally) working video that doesnt require a window over it, but cant be moved anywhere.

Btw, this is the xawtv's output if i run it in a term.

This is xawtv-3.72, running on Linux/i686 (2.2.20)
v4l: bttv version 0.5.35
v4l: prehistoric bttv version found, please try to
upgrade the driver before mailing bug reports
ioctl: VIDIOCSWIN(win=384x288+76+20,key=0,flags=0x0,clips=0): Cannot allocate memory

and this is v4l-conf's output

v4l-conf: using X11 display :0.0
dga: version 2.0
mode: 1280x1024, depth=16, bpp=16, bpl=2560, base=0xd0000000
/dev/video0 [v4l2]: ioctl VIDIOC_QUERYCAP: Invalid argument
/dev/video0 [v4l]: configuration done

you should probably try to upgrade it

chanza 12-30-2002 12:40 PM

Just upgraded, still got the same problem

Try adding a

Load "v4l"

in the modules section of you XF86config file. That will hopefully fix your problem.

chanza 01-01-2003 01:47 PM

*sigh*, still doesnt work :/

It's really annoying, I know its working, i can *watch* it working, but if nothing covers the window, nothing. Also I can't record, which is just terrible. If there's anything i want to record on telly, my only choice is to boot into windows to record it. It's *really* frustrating.

DavidPhillips 01-02-2003 07:12 PM

I would guess it's something related to your video drivers

chanza 01-03-2003 04:10 AM

I'm using the latest nvidia drivers... 1.0-4191

I'll try switching over to the basic vga driver later, see if it makes
any difference.

DavidPhillips 01-03-2003 05:18 AM

you should also try this options see if it makes a difference

xawtv -noxv
xawtv -bpp 16
xawtv -nodga
xawtv -noscale
xawtv -shift 1

======================================

i was having the same problem, then I tried manually:

# v4l-conf

... before all modules loaded
and its work

I hope this will solve your problem too
