XawTV / AVview - Black Screen / snow

Hello,
I use an ATI All-in-Wonder 8500 DV on my Suse 8.2 distribution.
When I run AVview from the GATOS-Project I only get a scrren with an horrible quality. You can only see snow and some green and red lines....
I also can't hear anything.

When i start Xawtv, I got a pure black screen, but the TV-Sound works.

My TV System ist Cable-PAL, west-europe....

Are there any tips?
What can I do?
