x86 emulator windows linux

is there an x86 emulator available..? think of it as PearPC but it emulates a standard CPU. I want to run windows, but have a part of my disk set aside to boot up linux while still running windows. it would be similar to QEMU but for windows

I don't really understand your question. Are you not already running Linux on an x86 system? If so, why would you want an emulator?

If you want to simultaneously run Windows and Linux, which is what I think you are asking, you should investigate VMWare - which runs only on x86 systems and provides a virtual machine environment. There are versions that run in Windows and versions that run in Linux. When you run VMWare you can load a guest operating system in VMWare. This gives an explicit capability to run multiple OSs in the same box at the same time. I usually have Win2K (sometimes 2 copies of it) running as guest in my Linux system using VMWare.

yea i tried to explain it in detail, but i probably just ended up sounding confusing.....yea basicly, i want to run a windows machine, but be able to boot up linux inside of windows, without restarting....the way you described vmware....i think its what i'm looking for
