X11 Forwarding/X-windows

I actually have the connection setup. From the X-windows terminal I can type xclock ands get the clock display. How do I run other programs from the command line to be displayed on remote machine. The dispay is fine I just dont know how to run programs.

Also I have tried startx and I have noticed that I can not get the GUI I come up. Is there a posible way I can get to my GUI?
