X11 Forwarding Question

Hi,

I've been reading about X11 Forwarding but I have just one question since I have not been able to try it out yet.

My system at home has X11 Forwarding on, can I then at work ( a Windows XP system ) run an SSH client with X11 capabilities and run X11 Applications from a windows machine using X11 Forwarding?

Thanks for your help...

Yes, as long as you also have a Windows hosted X server.

I think you may be a bit confused about what X Forwarding does. It is not in itself, an X server. It is a protocol that tunnels X traffic through your ssh connection, rather than using the usual port 6000, 6001,... You still have to have an X server on your client (sounds like a contradiction, but isn't). Hummingbird Exceed is one good commercial X server for Windows. Starnet X Win is another. Cygwin is a free althernative.

Xming is the same free X server as in Cygwin/X without Cygwin.
