Another tactic is to run Knoppix and just copy the XF86Config file that it generates...

Hey Iametarq,

I may be wrong here but I thought the XF86Config file was in:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/

Does anyone know a default setting that I can use? LIke a default VGA driver? Its detected my card as a matrox prestigue 6000 but its not working for it. I dont need to do anything with it just want to get X and maybe a simple gnome desktop working.

my config file is in /etc/X11/

maybe you could try VESA as your driver
