X11 alternative to ksnapshot (for region snapshot)?

Hello,

Snapshoting: I would need to make a PNG from a region selected with the mouse.
Ksnapshot is able to do so.
http://www.kde.org/images/screenshots/ksnapshot.png

Would you know a lightweight solution?

thank you
