X works for all but my user account...

Hi All,

Well I have had some funky things happen, first an empty drive does not show up on boot up and then X (kde 3.0) does not start in my normal user account. It works for root and other accounts but not my user account. How would I go about restore or reconfiguring my personal settings? What files would I need to copy to my home directory to start with a fresh X. I am thinking that is something to do with the personal configs because the rest of them seem to work...

Any help would be appreciated,
needamiracle

Hi needamiracle,
One thing I'd do is to check the hidden files from a user account that can startx and compare them to what you have in your home directory. If there are any you are missing (granted they are the once to start X) copy them to your directory and give it a try.

good luck!

Try to delete .xinitrc in your home directory.

Mara,

That's exactly what I did. It had a 0 byte file size and I figured that was the cause, fortunately I was correct, and everything is back to normal.

Thanks for the suggestions,
