X won't start except as root after latest Redhat/Fedora update
I've got four systems on which this has happend.
After pulling the latest updates to Redhat 3 and Fedora Core 1 (have various systems), X will not start except as root. /var/log/messages reads "...modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-10-134 but i don't think that's the only problem here as i add a module alias for this and it still doesn't work. and why can root start up X? my basic question here is whether anyone else has had problems firing up X since updating redhat or fedora. ps - it might have to do with the kernel upgrade, which i probably shouldn't have done. i upgraded to 2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp. harry |
Disregard!!
The problem was this...
I created a ".xinitrc" file with the line "xscreensaver &" (because like many aspects of KDE, it's screen lock is busted). anyway, i deleted this file and X starts :) |
