X Window cursor hack ?
How can I change the default cursor ? I noticed that recent KDE 3.1 boxes have a cool cursor with apparently more than 256 colors and alpha blending... I suppose it is an X hack. Any info on this ? RedHat 8 allows the cursor to be changed, but the options are not much. Can new mouse cursors be downloaded somewhere. I googled for it, but nothing.
Thanks! |
Do you have KDE 3.1?
KDE 3.1 was released after RedHat 8, I think sometime in January. This may sound like a "duh" response, but have you tried downloading KDE 3.1?

Well, it wasn't like that
I hate KDE. However, I love that cool cursor. Thus, I am at a stand-still. What I would really appreciate is info on that cursor change.

yeah... there's a slight difference between getting the cursor hack and installing a ...errr...avoiding flame war..... kde.
in case someone does find out, im subscribing! ; ) |
This might be it!
While reading RedHat's latest beta (Phoebe 8.1b3) release notes, I saw this :
"- Xcursor New mouse cursor code, allowing color, antialiased, alpha blended (translucency), animated, themeable, multi-size mouse pointers to be used." This is a feature of XFree86 4.3.0 (pre-release). So, it shouldn't be necessary to use KDE 3.1 to get the new cursors, just upgrade X ! :) Hope this solves it. |
How do I do this?
After reading the :study: fine manual on KDE 3.1.1 that comes with SuSE 8.2, I'm still nonethewiser about how to install pretty mouse pointers. I know that you can add them to themes, and that they are part of a module called xmouse, but where do I get xmouse from? There aren't any RPMs out there, are there? |
Have a look at the X11 Mouse Themes section at kde-look.org.

That was fast, thank you Aussie =)
