Angry X stuck in 640 by 480?

I have been trying to get slack 10 to run on a Dell Optiplex GX270

it has its onboard video. I have aquired the latest drivers from Intel (very slick driver script) and have updated slackware.

kernel 2.4.27 useing pretty much vanilla install with the intel drivers installed and useing swaret to update the system.

launching gnome or kdeit gives me only the option of 640x480.

in the xorg.conf i have modes from 1600x1200 to 800x600 for 16 and 24 bit depths. and it seems to be running well aside from the resolution being to small to deal with.

not really sure where to look, or what i am looking for to resolve this.

If its an onboard video chip I think its safe to say it is probably not the best chip in the world.

In your screen section with the resolutions there is probably all of those default display depths with all but one commented out. Try switching over to a lower depth.

like this -
#DefaultDepth 8
#DefaultDepth 16
#DefaultDepth 24
DefaultDepth 32
would turn into this -
#DefaultDepth 8
#DefaultDepth 16
DefaultDepth 24
#DefaultDepth 32

try it for each depth and if they all stay at 640x480, maybe try going back to the stock drivers from the slackware installation.

C'mon mate, don't expect people to google for
details ... what chipset is that thing using? How
much RAM has it got, is it shared RAM or dedicated?

Cheers,
Tink
