X Server Resets when loggin in through KDM
I finally decided to start using KDM as a session manager, however, when I log in as a normal users, the screen goes black for 2 seconds and the X server resets bringing me back to a log in screen. Root can log in normally through KDM. Users start the Xserver normally with xinit and startx.
I read about a similar problem online pertaining to diskspace, however, I have 3% usage on my root partition, and I'm pretty sure the permissions on the sockets in /tmp are correct. |
I've had the same problem, check the fonts configuration and don't use non standard fonts for kdm, at least until you make 'em available in your system.

I'm using the default Sans Serif for the login manager. I will install the kdeartwork package because I think it contains fonts, maybe that will fix it.

Well, actually I think sans serif (a font i LOVE, shame on me) isn't included in Linux (IMHO) and it's better to use an other nix font until you fix the X problem.
I've had the same problem, and i solve it this way. You can take a look in the X log file, you'll find surely that it was the problem, X wasn't able to load this font. |
Try changing you login shell to "sh".
If kdm works normally, look into /etc/profile - maybe the problem is there. |
