Red face X server

I want to know all the tweaks to make X run as a user other than root! For example it does not seem to be enough to add the user to group audio to unlock /dev/dsp,to me!
grazie!

I find your question deeply confusing.

X is the graphical server and really has nothing to do with audio groups or /dev/dsp (your sound card device).

Why would you want to run it other than as root?

If you must, then you need to change the ownership and permissions on all the files that constitute the X server, and start it from a non-root user profile. I don't know if it will run, though. It might not have enough permissions to access the system enough to hook in and start.

You might also try to run it suid.
