[Running Slackware 10.0 on a Compaq Presario 5400US (~2.4 GB partition).]
When I type "startx," it gives the usual blurb of text, then, as X is starting, switches to some "weird-ass" vertical bars. I don't know if this is a hardware problem (I used Knoppix v3.4 and the X system worked fine).
I grabbed the hardware specs from the Compaw website.

I tried to use Google and the Search function here, but neither have returned anything useful. Maybe I'm looking for grapes when I should be chasing apples ( ... yeah, that didn't make much sense to me either

), but could anyone offer any advice?

[Just to make sure it wasn't a one-time thing, I uninstalled, then re-installed all the X, XAP, KDE, etc. packages ... still doesn't work]
