X.Org and Composite features question...

Hi everyone,

I keep getting these error messages every time I start up KDE saying that I have to have xorg v6.8 or higher (which I have) installed for translucency and shadows to work and that I also need to add an entry to my config file...

Well I edited the file and got the transparency stuff to work, but it caused some significant slowdown in terms of system performance and windows drawing/rendering so I restored the file to its original contents.

Naturally this is making it so that I get those errors again, which are getting annoying.

I've tried to check everything I could think of in Yast2, Sax2, and KDE Control Center for anything and everything relating to transparency, translucency, and/or shadows and disable it all in an attempt to make these errors stop poping up and they are still there every time I start KDE.

So here's my question... other than re-enabling the composite features of x.org which I don't want to do, what can I do to solve this issue so the error messages don't show up anymore? Am I missing a shadows or trans- setting somewhere? Can I edit a file? What can I do?

For simple eye candy the feature looks promising, but it isn't really worth it to me at this time to slow down my system so badly just for some nifty visuals that I really don't need. Someone please help if you can :)

Thanks,
Drake

Oh, P.S. I'm running SuSE 9.3 Pro

You could forward them to /dev/null - annoying though it is to get error messages, if you know they're harmless, there's nothing wrong with ignoring them.

ok, I'm new to linux so help me out here... how would I go about forwarding them to /dev/null? is that just a file I can edit with vim or something (I'm too lazy to check it out at the moment and I'm trying to study for a final I have tomorrow anyway)?

Thanks very much for the response, I have no problem with simply ignoring the messages.

Right click on a window border and try setting the properties/preferences in there (for KWin).
