X Multimedia system Issues

Hi Eveyone!!!

I have been looking through the fourm and i found one person with oneo f my problems with Xmms.

I did some research on the current problem with xmms and RH8 and i was able to correct one of the problems seeing that i wasn't able to get xmms to start after receiving the Segmentation fault error.

Now apparently when i do try and play a mp3 file it just speeds up like if some hit the fast forward button. Right now as it stands i have the esound plugin enabled and i have tried using other I/O plugins but it was no use it all it does is sit there and put all the files on fast forward.

Is there a way around this problem?

Did you try installing the mpg123 plugin or just updating xmms ? Cause Redhat didn't ship with the mp3 decoders in 8.0 cause of some legal stuff, etc which I'm sure you read about.

From their FAQ on the xmms.org homepage:

r9: My XMMS don't output any sound and it seems to go about 3 -> N times as fast.
Whoops, you have been using the diskwriter plugin, press ctrl + p and change the output plugin to either OSS or ESD. You might want to check the configuration for the diskwriter plugin, the path will contain a couple of well sized wavs.

I tried looking in the perferences but nothings seems to be out of place. I am using the ESD plugin by default and i tried using OSS plugin but it does the same thing. What else could be the problem because the documentation they give you only mentions having the wrong plugin.
