X fails to start (solved)

I was having some trouble with some programs on Fedora Core 2 (specifically, firefox crashing and acting strange, man pages showing up blank). I restarted, and now as soon as booting is finished and X starts up, everything freezes and I end up with a blank screen. This is very odd since I don't recall making any major changes to anything lately (the biggest thing I've done recently is install QT 4 from source, but I can't imagine that would be causing these problems.)

Anyway, after using knoppix to set FC2 to boot into runlevel 3, I can log in normally but any attempt to startx crashes everything. Also, man pages still show up blank, a problem I've never seen before. I managed to grab the output of startx and save it in a file. Here it is:

"Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!" <-- I've seen this before, when I stupidly turned off the font server a few months ago while fiddling around. I turned it back on and everything was fine. It starts up normally now, as always, and is running when I try startx, so I have no idea what it's complaining about. I think this might be what's causing the problem but since xfs is already running I don't know what to do to fix it.

"FATAL: Module agpgart not found." <-- No clue whatsoever. AFAIK, I've never gotten this before, and I've viewed the X log files a few times in the past. Since it keeps going until it flips out about the fonts, I don't think this is the problem.

I put this under Software because I'm almost certain it's a problem with some files or configuration somewhere, and not a hardware problem. Xorg.0.log doesn't really have anything different from this, but if anyone wants it I'll post it, and anything else that might be of help.

what do u get for
lsmod

then
if u do not get agpgart there

run
modprobe agpgart

then try running startx

regards

Thanks, but I've already tried loading the agpgart module, and it says it's not found (?) I don't know why I'd need it now, since I never have before...

i think there is some thing wrong with ur kernel modules

i am not sure of this but this might help u

if u are using the default kernel from FC2, then install rpm forcefully again
then u wil have that agp module again

what do u get for lsmod

post that here

regards

Sorry for the long silence, but I've been away from an internet conneciton for a while. Well, I'm sure the agpgart module error wasn't the problem, because I managed to get things so that the font error was the only one being reported in the logs. At this point, though, I've simply done a fresh installation of a newer version of my distro (this one based on FC3). So, of course, it's all working smoothly now. Thanks for your help, though.

P.S. Can this thread be marked as "moot" or "solved" or something? I can't see how to change the title but I don't want to draw people to something that's no longer an issue.

well u see u have errors in ur log

FATAL: Module agpgart not found.
[drm] failed to load kernel module "agpgart"
Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

which accounts for problem with fonts and agpgart
