X desktop doesn't want to change.
I installed Slackware 7.1 with GNOME as the desktop. Afterwards, I tried different desktops but it got stuck on WindowMaker and won't switch to GNOME or KDE, and I believe I can't go to any others. I'm assuming it's locked in one of the many configuration files, but which one would it be?

wmaker installs itself differently to other window managers, like you may have noticed, just run 'switchdesk gnome' and it should be ok again.

No good
It said that 'switchdesk gnome' is an unknown command. Any other advice? Someone?

try going into your /etc/system directory, i think its there in the system folder, you should find a desktop file, if you open it up... it should give you a line like"
desktop=windowmaker
just change that to whatever you want... like gnome or kde... and see if that works for you.

There was no /etc/system directory or system/desktop file under /etc. Is my computer that different?

Well, I'll be out for a while, so take your time. Always better to get it on the first, well, this case, second try.

Okay, I might be able to fix this if someone knows where the Gnome executable is (what file launches gnome). Or if there is any other way please tell.
