During X Windows Configuration during installation, it says "Preparing to configure X Windows." and then says "An error occurred. server Mach64 is not available (should be in /mnt/usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86." Can anyone help me?
What distro are you using? And are you installing from proper media, like a known-good CD? Is sounds like some files aren't where they're expected to be which could mean a bad disc.
Somethings a little strange! I'm assuming that the installer has mounted the CDROM under /mnt and is looking for the directory under that, but the only thing I can think it can be is a bad disc or something, however that wouldn't just give only you the wrong directory structure as all the discs are alike...
Any Mandrake users got any suggestions? The whole path seems strange to me as /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 sounds good, but I don't see why any distro would have the entire directory replicated on the install disc (hence under /mnt), instead of in packages that are then expanded to create the dirs on the target file system...
Sorry for any confusion, but I didn't find the whole directory on the cd, only the Mach64 file. I thought of manually creating the directory on my Linux system, then copying the file from the cd into the directory and attempting to use the "rescue" option to go back to installation and try to configure X. However, my friend said that it's not a good idea because something serious might have gone wrong during installation, as the whole directory wasn't even created. He suggested I reinstall. Any other suggestions?
