Well... I just got RH 7.2 installed and ran xconfig. The hardware is supported. It's a 16 MB Voodoo Banshee. And the monitor is also supported. It's a Samsung syncmaster 3. Howerver, no matter which settings I try, the GUI crashes. What should I try next? I'm new at this. I've tried every resolution that the hardware supports in X configuration. Could it be a motherboard thing?
Oh ya... a few more things... It won't work with a Matrox Productiva G100 which it also probed and found and is supported... and it wouldn't work with a Diamond Viper 550... which also was probed and found and supported... So... It's probably not the video card. I've tried reinstalling with different cd's too, just to make sure the distro didn't have any errors... No taco.
None... It just kicks me back to the text prompt. If I ctrl - alt - F7... it's just black. When I try to test any configuration in X configuration it says that it fails... the message there is the basic "There is a problem with your X configuration. You may go back and modify your configuration or exit now." These cards all work in Windows... I'm probably being stupid... but I still need the help to figure this out.
Hey... telling me where to look for the log was actually enough. In the XFree86.0 log it said that there were no available screens... as in... it was trying to use a refresh rate that wasn't supported by the monitor... because the hardware profile for my monitor was incorrect... Who should I send an email to to get that fixed? There's an error in the hardware profile for this monitor.
