www with redhat9, sbc &d-link/speedstream

I am a 2 day newbie and loaded rh9 on a spare drive for my Latitude. I use SBC DSL(win98) with a speedstream 5100 modem and a d-link 690 ethernet PCI bus. The hardware browser seems to see the d-link but cannot activate it, so perhaps it is incompatible(I will also post in hardware). But if it is compatible, I need some application that will get me to the SBC server so I can login and surf and mail and stuff. This appears to me to be the only missing link(assuming compatability of d-link) Any and all ideas are gratefully appreciated. Thanks

I am not familiar with SBC's dsl service, but I would guess that they require you to use some kind of pppoe software (provide a username and password to log on to the net) If so, it sounds like you need rp-pppoe available from
Once you've got the package, install it (as root) and run the command:
adsl-setup Provide your username, password, the type of firewalling you want, and away you go (btw after you run setup, run adsl-start, again as root, and see if it signs you on)
