www.domain.com instead of domain.com

I havn't used apache for quite a while but I am now in charge of a webserver. right now server, domain, com works but www, server, domain, com does not. As I remember I need to do something in my /etc/hosts file and my httpd.conf file.

Can anybody help me out?

PS: I used , instead of . in order to make this post.

1st you'll need to make sure the www address is in your DNS server:
dig www.domain.com

Then add a virtual host to apache or if you want to serve the same content as domain.com then you just need a serveralias.
