Writing to MS Access DB from linux

Hi,

I am trying to set up a simple Access DB for a webdesign client. The client's host runs ColdFusion 5 and will let us use an Access Database (I am trying to see if another DB is available). I only have Linux on my computer, and I would prefer to keep it that way - plus I just discovered my Office 97 CD is no longer readable. I have Coldfusion 6, but the linux version does not support MS Access. I prefer coding in PHP, but it appears (bryanmills.net:8086/archives/2003/11/microsoft-access-database-using-linux-and-php/) that the MDB driver is still very limited on write support.

Is there any way to write to an Access database from linux? I have an empty Access DB, so I don't need to create the file.

Thanks for your time.

Hi -

To the best of my knowledge, it cannot be done. Microsoft Access has a Microsoft-specific binary file format, and requires runtime support from the Microsoft Windows OS (specifically, it requires the "Jet Engine" and associated .dll's).

Others have posted differing opinions, I'm prepared to be wrong in my pessimism. Here are a few links:
