I use xchat (if you're thinking client and not server). Very easy to set up and use.

Sorry. I do mean client software. I just want to participate, not host.

Go with xchat - it has a Windows version as well. Get it here: http://www.xchat.org/ if it's not already in your install or even grab it from apt-get.

If you use mozilla then you probably already have Chatzilla. GAIM also has an alright IRC client. Xchat is good too though

Grab software from apt-get? What is the command?

apt-get install?

How do you specify what to install woth apt-get and how do you know what the apt-get name of the program is?

Go to Apt4RPM and grab the rpms for Fedora. Follow the instructions to install it. Then, when it's all up and running, either drop in to a command line and (as root) type in apt-get install<programname> or type in apt-get install synaptic - Synaptic is the gui for apt-get and you can select programs from a menu.

Cool.

It makes installing so very much easier. Especially since it resolves dependencies for you.

For those reading this post for a solution:

I installed synaptic using

apt-get install synaptic

I installed XChat by going into the synaptic selection list (left side of the pane) under the section "Applications\Internet" and selecting XChat. Then I clicked "download". In Fedora/RedHat, XChat seems to put a link under the

"Start" menu (Hat) --> Internet --> More Internet Programs --> IRC Chat
