Workaround no boot selection on startup

Dear all

I come across a problem with my Acer Apire E1-431 with bios locked with password and secure boot is enable, first boot is internal HDD and F12 for boot order selection is impossible. I would like to know if it is possible to create boot in internal hard drive so I can select CD Drive, USB Drive or Internal hard drive and be able to install Windows and Linux in the same internet hard drive.

How to Clear/Remove Acer Bios Password

if you had/have linux already installed, using grub you can create a 40_custom menu for booting. That too is worth a try.
another try (maybe better) on clearing bios passwd.

being a trusting soul, I put this public information out to you.

I've tried those tricks to remove bios password, none of them work. With secure boot enabled. It won't allow you to boot any hacking tools. It doesn't even boot Windows 7 or earlier version. I've removed cmos battery for an hour it didn't work. I don't have Linux installed now. Can you show me how to create grub custom boot menu to be able to boot into CD or USB Drive?

if you can crack it open, install an os on a similar laptop/desktop pull the HDD and slap it into that one. got yourself an OS. being that hardware is different that is a gamble because of hardware, that might be able to be circumvented by knowing that hardware is on that one and installing the drivers for it prior to swapping it out. as far as grub 40_custom you got to have a Linux installed prior to.

Custom_Menu

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US...stom_Menu.html

did you have a look at that last link for messing up the passwd then getting a reset code then going to a free sight to get the code then get into the BIOS link?

Enter wrong password 3 times will not display unlocked code. Instead, it shows "System will halt".
I hope there is a solution to create custom boot menu either grub or anything else.

I even tried to modify bios firmware to remove password and flash but the bios detect modified firmware and won't allow update.

I know others have set up there grub to boot Linux off usb sticks .. so search for that to get a good idea of what to write for the custom menu then mod it to seek that usb port and hopefully a live linux distro will take hold and boot.

I am sure it is going to take some finagling but I'm more positive it could be done. but not completely positive.

but like i said you're going to have to have a disk with grub on it and an OS to update your grub as you mess with it until you get to to work. That requires what I said in my other post.

What does your Acer user manual say about passwords?

For mine, a trip to service center is needed, if BIOS password is forgotten... which kinda makes sense.

And if I lock with a supervisor pw, it's a new systemboard...

If those password settings can be circumvented, they're kind of worthless, aren't they?

Are we actually 100% sure that this is about the BIOS password, and not something else?
I'm not good with UEFI, could there be something too?
Or could it even be grub, disk encryption etc.?
@OP: Have you tried live booting something from a USB or CD?
