Woe Is I...More RedHat 7.2
 

I had it working fine.
So I had to go and do too much.
Yes, I am new to Linux..
How could you tell?
So I tried to install an older version,
which didn't solve my problem.
SO NOW I go to reinstall 7.2, which was in before.
One problem after another! But, after 8 reinstalls,
all but one problem solved.

My USB support was always automatic, before.
I don't remember doing a single thing except letting
anaconda do its thing.
And do an automatic install, all the way.

This time, no matter how small or full the install..
Not once in these 8 times is USB support there.

I know I didn't fool with BIOS or anything...
So I am stumped.
I never had to recompile or anything for this to work..
It always worked right out of the box...
Didn't it?

Have I forgotten something from 2 months ago
and last good install? Something small I may have
done?

Let's start with your hardward list, shall we?

My friend hated XP so much that he gave the finger to XP when he didn't do anything to Linux install and it found his USB mouse. I've seen it. All W98, 2K & XP can't find USB mouse at install. What's most mind-bogging is *gasp* the mouse is made by MICROSOFT!!

I am sorry.
I thought I made it clear..
It worked in Linux just the day before.
And I have reinstalled once before..
And it was recognized, without an adjustment.

So how could it be hardware?
Nothing has changed there.
And I know the mouse isn't broken, because
it works fine in USB in Windows.
Windows98SE, by the way, sees it at startup,
because of plugnplay...
So I didn't understand your friend's experience either.
Hey, not that I don't appreciate feedback..

But what could I have done, by just
trying to install 5.1 Red Hat ,finding it didn't work,
taking it out, and then reinstalling 7.2?
I mean, like, to the BIOS?

UNBELIEVABLE...BUT GOOD!
 

I was going to throw it all away..Linux, I mean...
But being not a quitter, I just said,
ONE MORE TIME.
I reinstalled ( the 9th) time,
and this time EVERYTHING went in beautifully
and perfectly, like it hadn't before.

Nothing had to be changed..
No BIOS settings, nothing. AND EVERYTHING WORKED.

I can't explain it.
Call Ripley's or Guinness,
I guess.

It just works..
and I am back as a Linux user.

In fact, doggone if it doesn't seem
to actually be running BETTER and SMOOTHER!

Go figure.
I can't.
A newbie am I,

You didn't have to reinstall just to get your mouse to function, RedHat is known to detect hardware differently sometimes. Next time you install and your mouse isn't functioning you can repair the issue by editing the XFree86-4 file located in /etc/X11.
