Redhat 7.2 is old, that old that redhat are now releasing version 9.0, install that or any other recent distro and you won't be bothered by this problem.

OK, it goes back to the question that the original poster i_is_cat

How to keep all of his profiles and setting while updating?

I exactly have no idea about updating RH9
Cause I use MDK in my Laptop
RH9 is good for server, but I prefer use MDK personally
I like to modify the main menu,
In MDK I can do it arbitrary, but in RH9....
I need to modify the XML files.....
That's not good for "end user"
But there is no difference for server job
Maybe someone can answer the question.

Upgrading to red hat 7.3 or 9 is VERY EASY as I already pointed out. Just put in the cd and select upgrade when prompted. It will leave all of your current settings the same.
I don't know why this appears to be such an undertaking in some people's minds.

its all good i finally got mplayer to compile and it works except if i make it fullscreen it tells me my computer is too slow which is no big deal because i don't need full screen and someone also mentioned that redhat 7.3 will keep everything the same which is cool thats all i wanted to know i just downloaded the .iso's and need another cd to burn the last one don't you hate it when you can't find anything? heh but everything seems to be cool thanx for all the help
