With OpenVPN, how do you get the TAP adapter to work properly ?
I set up my OpenVPN server on a Linux machine.
I set up clients on both Linux and Windows machines.
All the Linux clients work quick and reliable.
All the windows machines work once in a while.
The only difference between their config scripts is the line about the TAP adapter.
When the Window clients start, they have long repeats of "Waiting for TUN/TAP adapter to come up. Sometimes they make it. Usually they don't.
I finally realized that the problem really is the TAP adapter, not just my setup, when I noticed it was walking on the regular ethernet adapter. Sometimes the VPN finishes initialization and connects, and the regular ethernet adapter is dead, unable to browse either the LAN or the internet, and even sometimes it is identified as being unplugged, requiring a reboot to correct it.
Since others are having success with the TAP adapter, can anyone tell me how to get it to play nice ?
