wireless module
have there been any new modules under linux released for the Broadcom BCM94306 wireless g nic? i'm running the ndiswrapper tool to get it going. however, i'd like some native mandrake conf tools to recognize it.

Unfortunately Broadcom, like some other wireless chipset makers, refuses to release any kind of worth while documentation on there chipsets. As a result, there are no native linux drivers that I'm aware of. I recommend you complain to them, maybe if enough people do they will provide us the documentation so we can support there product (ya... I know... you'd think they would welcome us to support there product for them...).

well as a followup....
so i've got the nic running (well) using ndiswrapper. however in mandrake, the connection will be dropped after a few minutes unless something (like gaim) is running that keeps some frequent activity across the connection. any ideas on a remedy? |
hey John...
i had Mandrake also and the same happened with me !! (not only with wlan0 but also with eth0... ) a piece of advice : SHIFT TO FEDORA or something else WHY : 1) Look and feel of Fedora is better 2) i got ndiswrapper adn eth0 working in 5 min !! |
so i actually settled the issue with dropping the wireless connection. if i use dhclient wlan0 instead of ifup wlan0 after specifying both essid and channel, then it works completely. in fact, i don't even have to specify channel.
as for swapping to fedora......i have. i'm not a fan of humongous installs. however, i must confess, i like the way it looks. but not any more than i like the way mandrake looks for sure. |
