WinMX/wine

When I try to run WinMX with wine, the main WinMX window appears, but it shakes wildly, shimmying itself right off the screen! It's ridiculous, and was funny when I first saw it. I've tried it with various versions of wine over the past few months, including the latest (20021031). I've also tried using WineX 2.1 and 2.2, and I've replaced the dll's as they suggest in the Wine App DB, all to no effect. Has anyone ever *heard* of anything like this?

Nope, never heard of it. Probably becuase I tried using wine and it would not work no matter how much I tried.
I know I'm no help but thought I could cheer you up, (I know I needed it after wine!)

Hi, I have the same problem, plus when I make a search
I cannot see the found mp3 as they seem to be of the
same colour than the background!changing the
colout has no effect!

Did you find any way to improve the situation? I am on
mandrake 8.1 at the moment and with windows
millennium (all systems I know, but...)

If it helps any I have successfully used WinMX with Wine 20021007. I tried an earlier version too (don't remeber which) and it didn't work.

Hi, I have tried the suggested version of wine
and of winmx! it works alright, but I still
have the problem with the search and download
window too (now) i.e. I cannot see any found
track!it is all black (where is before
u could see something)!This is what I get in the
terminal:
fixme:listview:LISTVIEW_WindowProc LVM_GETSUBITEMRECT: unimplemented

Can it be your setting of .wine/config is
different?

try putting this at the end of your wine config file

[AppDefaults\\winmx.exe\\DllOverrides]
"commctrl" = "native"
"comctl32" = "native"
"ole32" = "native"
"oleaut32" = "native"
"rpcrt4" = "native"
"shdocvw" = "native"
"shlwapi" = "native"

It is working just fine with this add on in the config file!!!!!

Thanks a lot! it is as quick as in windows actually!

So what was the problem about anyway? (just to know
I will try some other windows programs and
see how it does!

Do you think newer versions of wine might also work
well with the change in the config?

Thanks again

Alex

ps: I love this forum, people are just good!

LOL - "shimmying" solution... months later

Well, 5 months after I started this thread, I found a solution to that annoying window problem described in my first post. I added the following line to the [x11drv] section of my config:
"Desktop" = "800x600"
I wasn't even trying to get WinMX to work; I added that line to play BOTF, and I tried WinMX on a whim. Imagine my surprise! Hopefully this will help someone in the future, and in less time than it took my lame ass...

You told Wine to use some DLLs from an actual Windows installation rather than its own built in ones. That can sometimes fix bugs (and introduce new ones), at the cost of using less open source code.
