Ok.... i'm desperately trying to install winex..... i use slackware..... I hate rpm's.....and the only free winex mirrors are .rpm packages...
I've tried to run rpm -i winex-whatever.rpm but i get some failed dependencies like /bin/sh and a bunch of libs that i know i have.
....so i tried rpm2tgz on the file and all i end up with is a useless .tgz file of less that 1kb.
I'm on the verge of giving up... can anyone point me in the right direction... or if push comes to shove... if by buying the membership at transgaming, are all their files .rpm's as well?? I would really like to avoid doing that.
- I already have the .rpm linked at this site.... can do nothing with it....
- The optional source code hosted appears to have nothing to do with wine x... just wine
I have no idea what apt-get is
I have never used cvs. Wouldnt know where to link.
I use Slack and compile almost all my apps from source.... only the base system apps are installed from Slackware .tgz packages. Maybe i'm just getting frustrated, but why can't they just post the source code... somewhere...? Isn't standard Wine widely available as source.. or am i wrong?
well first off the 3 links you posted are the EXACT same website, and i don't see why you couldn't get that, if your referring to the bzip file then i think thats screwed on the site but the rpm is fine, um apt-get you can:
a) either read up on it
b) search this fourm on it cause lots of people ask about it
as of cvs, i see that piper just explained where to go pertaining to that, and lastly the slinux.net website
you create an account just like you would for LQ.org very quick simple step that takes you 30 seconds, and then you click the link on the left side that says Downloads, and you download winex3...
so i don't see how you could get nowheres with them links, cause all work and all have it.

They appear to be websites which are referred to as separate resources and are layed-out completely differently.

CVS is just dandy. I *think* it worked... I have what appears to be a wine tree in my root directory... three hours after begining the cvs transfer. So, i'll see where that leads. Do they really submit so many changes to the winex source tree that it would justify something like cvs or is it just because cvs is really "cool" or whatever?
spent 60 hours with that cvs thing. spent another 60 hours compiling and installing. followed the instructions. typed "winex". got "bash: winex: command not found". I give up. I used to run regular wine fine mostly. I hate wine. I hate windows. I hate windows applications. It has polluted my system and driven me insane. I am a mad-man now and will spend the rest of my days in console compiling simple programs from stable source that i downloaded in nice tarballs. I am going to buy an X Box now for all my gaming needs. Thanks for your help.
yeah.. i read it.... i have no winex script in /usr/bin or anywhere for that matter. It "just didn't work." I'm sorry. I have little patience right now, frankly. Have you ever had one of those days or weeks where you can't seem to get a thing to work... and I install, configure and run slackware just fine.. and i'm working with LFS so I think i'm a fairly capable linux user. Maybe i'll pick it up again in a few weeks. For now, I think i'll go install some themes for window maker or something mindless until I regain my self-esteem.
