WineX - installing Diablo 2

Hey Guys

I have WineX 2.11 (I think) installed.

I've been told to open the dir in konsole then run "xinex setup.exe"

I tried it with Starcraft 1st but with no luck

any other ways of installing a win32 program with XineX??

Thanks Guys

DrOzz 09-03-2003 12:56 PM

you type: winex not xinex
it must of been a misprint on the document you read...

What's the difference between Wine and WineX ? I have Wine installed myself (20030813) and am trying to install a game as well. I get this error trying to install from cdrom :

bash-2.05b$ wine /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe

I can hear the CD spin and the initial InstallShield progress bar and some black window pop up but they just close again after a while without moving on to the actual installer.

Sorry that was a typo

I did type winex

Moominpeikko 09-03-2003 01:20 PM

sergeantroach : what error message do you get ?

Try specifying the dir like $winex /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe

DrOzz 09-03-2003 01:20 PM

ok well if it was a typo (twice) then post what error your getting when trying to run it....

for the other question, you can go to the devolopers sites to read the difference, but in lamens terms winex is built for specifically for games, and wine is just a floater i guess you can call it where it can run various things, including games, but doesn't have the support and guarutees like winex does when it comes to games...anyways, there are issues with installershield installers, so maybe look at this thread i know it isn't about your game, but the issue at hand and the fix is what you want to look at...

JaseP 09-03-2003 01:27 PM

You may want to get a transgaming subscription so that you can download the latest winex build from them. The current is WineX 3.1 and it has better installshield support than in the past, and is likely to support your game more-so than the older 2.11 version

sergeantroach 09-03-2003 01:30 PM

[sergeantroach@localhost sergeantroach]$ winex /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe
wine: lstat /home/sergeantroach/.transgaming/wineserver-localhost/socket : No such file or directory

OK I get this message

sergeantroach 09-03-2003 02:28 PM

OK Hey Guys

Anyone know how I can just test if I have WineX installed and working alright

Moominpeikko 09-03-2003 02:33 PM

Ok, I've succeeded in installing the original version of the game (EverQuest if it matters..) but when I try to install an expansion pack I get an error saying it (InstallShield) failed to copy IKernel.exe to c:\\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32 and that I should check my permissions. So I created this path (it didn't exist to start with) and made sure I had permission to rw in all these directories. Fired up wine again and still got the same error. So I copied the file manually to this dir and ran setup again. The error message pops up in a windows type error box from within the installer, not in the terminal.

sergeantroach 09-03-2003 02:53 PM

Will the expansion pack install Everquest and the expansion pack together?

Also has anyone had any thoughts about my prob?

sergeantroach 09-03-2003 04:53 PM

Hey Guys

I have just installed WineX 3.3.0 Pre release

Can anyone help me now?

:d

Thanks

neo77777 09-03-2003 05:42 PM

should be easy with winex3 /path/to/setup.exe if the game is on a CD-ROM, make sure it is mounted. You might need to setup your configuration file found under .transgaming in your home directory

sergeantroach 09-04-2003 09:21 AM

Hey Guys

Here is the (very long) config file for WineX 3.3.0
Can anyone see anything wrong with it?
