WineX + C&C Generals
I am trying to make command and conquer: Generals work with winex
i installed it on a windows partition and copied files over, but when I try to start the game the anti-debugger protection kicks in and says somnething about "Please Close debugger and try again." It is to prevent you from running softice etc on generals, I guess
anyone know a way around this?

what distro are you using? i have read articles about command and conqueur using wine and winex and there seems to be no problems, although there were minor problems like no keyboard and resolution problems that were easily fixed in the wine config..
what steps did you take to install it, just the basic ones?
wine /pathTOcdrom/setup.exe
wine gamename.exe
?...

I've tried windows installers on winex before to no avail
but i dont think that is the problem
the problem is that something is triggering the debug detection int he game

okay i tried installing it to a fake windir, and it took quite a while, but it is installed. It still doesnt work. I get a winex console window and a messagebox that says A debuger has been detected. Unload the debugger and try again.
edit: I found this info on the EA games site, it appears that any program running in the background will trip debugger detection
Quote:
The "Debugger has been Detected" error means that a resident program is being run in the background with the game. The game may be thinking the program is a debugger being loaded to crack the game. To resolve this issue, simply make sure all programs running in the background are closed before launching the game. If you're not sure how to do this, you can press the [Ctrl], [Alt] and [Delete] keys in Windows and hit "End Task" on everything except the "Systray" and "Explorer" tasks. You may have to repeatedly "End Task" on some tasks before they close out completely.
