winetools/wine problem with fallout 2

I've got the latest winetools (as of 29/9/2003) and I am running the defualt version on wine that come with Mandy 9.1

I've just tried to install fallout 2, when I choose the setup.exe file and click install nothing happens the box where the path to setup.exe is simply cleared and nothing happens, I've tried to install DCOM98 but I always get a installation failed message.

Any ideas people?

Well, the first thing you've to do is to remove your wine. Chances are that Mandrake shipped with a pretty old version of wine (Mandy is not so new either anymore).
In second, if you are willing to run games, wine will make things pretty difficult sometimes. I recommend winex for games:

www.transgaming.com

As you can see here: http://www.transgaming.com/gamepage.php?gameid=54

Fallout 2 works just fine. If you still want to try with wine, get a new one here:

www.winehq.com

There might be packages for Mandy 9.1 there.
Good luck!

With CVS is free, precompile packages are not. I've never had to compile WineX, because I have pre-compiled packages . Here are some good tutorials:

Downloading WineX CVS:

Go to your shell:

1) Loggin in into CVS server (when asked for a password press enter):

$ cvs -dserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex login

2) Getting CVS sources:

$ cvs -z3 -dserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex co wine

A more detailed tutorial about downloading and installing WineX is here:

Another WineX CVS install tutorial:

General info about installing programs from source (compiling) and other ways, this is a nice thread:

Good luck!
