wine works but REALLY slow

Hi everyone I have just installed a 50mb slackware package for wine. I noticed from the beginning that it was really slow. For example when I was using regedit I noticed the lag when I was writing or moving though the registry tree.

I managed to install and run starcraft but that just takes for ever even to start up.

What could be making wine run sooooo slow??

BTW I have an Athlon 2500+ with 512mb ram
