Well, I installed "wine". It looks awful and cant run even "Quake III" properly. (btw, i am using quake III for linux, but tried if wine cud make windows version work)
Ok, flashes and small applications work, but what about installing Internet Explorer??
I previously had Windows also in my box, and had specified the "Windows C:" to wine. After that, i guess it started using "Windows dlls" and it looked better.
Now, I have no windows. Can anyone tell how can I copy some dlls from a Windows PC, and specify wine to use those?? Well. I can devote up to 1GB of space to store any extra dlls if required.
Yep, wine (edit)crossover(/edit) is comercial but only $40. I've used wine a lot over the years but never had much success with things like IE. Not that I need to use IE very much anyway. In fact now days I refuse to use it and I avoid sites that are IE only - I complained to one of our banks about the situation until it eventually changed.
Ohhhh....is wine commercial.......i got my free copy from sourceforge.net
anyway, i just wanna make it work because i maintain a website for ANTIVIRUS SOLUTIONS FOR WINDOWS.
So every antivirus tool, I have test atleast whether it executes or not ( the people complain bout currupt executables on my site...and i say u test and i will change. I want myself to test before putting 'em up )...and maybe i wanna play a windows game or two...
Sorry, It's 4 am here Wine is free, of course and I was meaning to say crossover is commercial.
Codeweavers and Transgaming use wine to make their products (which are just wine with enhancements) but they also put much back into the wine code, so I support them.
Just tell me how to tell wine....tht look, i have some abc.dll somewhere in a folder in my comp (on a linux ext3 partition) and use that instead of your own...... actually i need to know what to write in the [Dlloverride] section of ~/.wine/config file.....
does anyone know wht dll is responsible for the looks of window widgets in wine...i wanna desperately replace tht...
I have had great success with the latest versions of wine - it seems to run far more, they seem to have made some kind of breakthrough.
I have got more mileage out of wine by downloading the source code, rather than pre-compiled binaries, you just unzip & run ./tools/wineinstall from within the directory. This automatically installs & configures & gives the best results I have got, including for me against crossover office for the apps I want: I tried their free trial but have gone back to wine itself.( BTW if you install wine as above it seems to pays to delete/move everything & start from scratch )

I've compiled wine from source quite often and had good results, but it takes forever on the sorts of boxes I have here and takes more diskspace than I often have available. Crossover makes a quick easy solution, especially for the P2's the kids use for their school work.
Looks as in I meant the way a button or window object is DRAWN.....when I previously had windows too, I specified C drive to wine, and it started making those window objects and fonts in a better way...now i dont have windows, so which file to use as native to get the same effect??
