Wine with Windows XP

I'm still confused with running wine. I've installed wine from a slackware package, and copied to config files from the /usr/doc/wine.../samples directory. Then I edited the files a little, to match the file locations on my system.

I've once compiled wine from source, and used the ./tools/wineinstall program to configure wine, but that didn't make any difference.

Wine is able to load notepad from my Windows XP NTFS drive, and the file-open dialog works too. The NTFS drive is readonly, but I've solved any problems with that. (such as notepad crashing, because it couldn't create my profile directory)

Code:
diederik@hal9000 diederik $ wine explorer

When I try to locate it, it seams that the DLL file is stored in lowercase.

Code:
diederik@hal9000 diederik $ locate BROWSEUI.dll
diederik@hal9000 diederik $ locate browseui.dll
/mnt/hd/winxp/WINDOWS/system32/dllcache/browseui.dll
/mnt/hd/winxp/WINDOWS/system32/browseui.dll
So I may be mistaken, but why isn't wine able to load my uppercased DLL files?

I have expereinced severe problems in Wine and XP especially in using NTFS. You really need to becareful here. I switch to Fat32 and it works OK- I don't trust it totally.
I am going to go back to W2K probably this weekend, I am sooo tired of all the problems with XP working with Linux.
You can count on M$ to make sure all future applications in Windows will pay hell to work in Linux at all. That the reason we need to switch now-- Gate's Said in an interview yesterday " there are no plans in M$ to make anything we do Linux friendly" in other words he going to close it off.
You also need to be aware that M$ annouced that IE will no longer be a stand alone product avaliable for download- which tells you right there they lied through their teeth in court when they said IE could be separate product from Windows-Hell they built the darn thing around the web in the first place....

I got it working a little more..

After copying all files to a FAT32 partition, it didn't work either.. However, I just realized that the System32 wasn't in my path. (the old fashion system folder was) One of your notes about Microsoft closing everything made me remember this change.

However, a lot still doesn't seam to work. Maybe it's because Windows XP is indeed too new, and perhaps I should downgrade to Windows98. But right now, I don't want to mess too much with Windows (hehe) I'll try to find out more after this weekend. I don't want Windows 98 to mess up my MBR right now
